In October 2008, Richard Garriott, a legendary game developer, joined an elite group of individuals who, after months of training in Russia, participated in a private mission to the International Space Station
(ISS). Prior to his mission, Heidi Messer-Martin, Tad Martin and Stephen Messer joined forces with Richard to explore artistic opportunities unique to space. The result of these efforts was that Richard brought with him a series of works done by various artists, some of his mother’s work as well as a few sculptural items from his own art collection. Richard created a “gallery” on the ISS, truly hosting the first ever art
exhibition in space.
The culmination of all of these efforts is a revolutionary art exhibition that will be hosted at the Charles Bank Gallery in New York City’s Lower East Side from October 13th-16th, 2011. To the best of our knowledge, this show will be the first to feature art inspired by, created in and/or exhibited in space.
Ticket sales from this event will benefit and promote the Challenger Center.
